Currently, AXIA is working on a new multi-purpose building and other site improvements for the Brookside School in San Anselmo. AXIA’s approach to the design of this new building was to respect other buildings on the campus, while providing a new focal point for the school. A multi-purpose building at an elementary school can be the heart of the school; from basketball games to lunch to the school play, the building must be flexible and functional. By allowing the multi-purpose space to be as large and functional as possible, we were able to create ancillary space that bracket this large space. The scale of the supporting spaces in elevation help ground the building within the existing campus. Also, we designed an exterior amphitheater which will allow the multi-purpose building to have flexibility beyond the constraints of its footprint.
