The Eagle Peak Middle School is located in a small rural community north of Ukiah. The concept for the school was developed through many meetings within the community involving the school board, administration, faculty and members of the community at large. Additionally the school serves a second function as a focal point for community activities, social services and athletics. This idea became one of the organizing principles of the design.
Another concept which significantly influenced the design was to develop an interesting, challenging and inspirational education environment – a place that could be possessed by the students. Out of this idea came the educational street, a two-story campus and faceted classroom walls with built-in display cases and street amenities which were developed from a student workshop.
