AXIA Architect’s Leah Pettis participated in the Synopsys-Sonoma County STEAM Showcase put on by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE). STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics and it is a way of educating that enriches student’s development in critical thinking. Over 500 students from multiple schools participated in the Showcase either presenting as an individual or as a group. The students, ranging from 5th to 12th grade, created presentations based on one of two themes: Stability and Change or Unseen Possibilities. Leah was part of a volunteer team who evaluated the student’s presentation using a rubric designed by SCOE. The wide-range of projects address issues such as helmet safety, homelessness, and climate changes. With the help of SCOE, the STEAM Showcase celebrates the student’s innovative spirit and encourages forward thinking in our future problem solvers.
