Alhambra Performing Arts

The Alhambra Performing Arts Center is a signature building on a newer campus. Programmatically it addresses the performing arts curriculum of the High School as well as a need for a joint-use art gallery with the Martinez Community. AXIA’s challenge was to fit the complex program requirements of a performing arts center, with some very large structures, into an existing campus with a new community-oriented face to the street.  The existing high school complex spans out around a circular drive with low one-story wings sweeping up to larger buildings and hills in the distance.  The 12,500 square foot facility includes a 350-seat theatre with a thrust stage, public lobby, art gallery, band room, green room and work storage areas. Phase 2 included performing arts teaching spaces with 4,500 square feet of drama, dance, chorus rooms, staff offices, a media reference center, and additional storage.
